Peters, John

Peters was the nephew of the Rev. Samuel Peters and a native of America. He was a Judge of Probate for the Court of Common Pleas and a colonel of the Gloucester County Militia. Peters refused to swear loyalty to the patriot cause and, in 1776 fled to Canada. He was appointed a colonel in the Queens Loyal Rangers. He served in Burgoyne's campaign, but returned to Canada shortly after the Battle of Bennington. He entered his claim for reimbursement in 1785 but died in 1788, leaving eight children....
